Vipassana :

I have recently joined Wipro Technologies as a new joinee of MBA batch 08 from Symbiois, Pune. You must know that people call B Schools in India educational resorts. You have very less to do and lot of time to enjoy with your friends but there is something that was very much compulsory in the first year induction for all the junta and that was Vipassana. We used to call it the unnecessary burden on poor souls like us. Vipassana is one of most ancient meditation techniques. It was rediscovered 2500 years ago by Lord Buddha. The word Vipassana means seeing things as they really are. It is the process of self - purification by self - observation. One begins by observing the natural breath to concentrate the mind. With a sharpened awareness one proceeds to observe the changing nature of body and mind and experiences the universal truths of impermanence, suffering and egolessness. Sounds quite heavy stuff isn’t. Anyways we used to attend it because it was mandatory and there was a rumor going around in the campus that it may carry marks also. I think waking up in the morning at 5 AM was the biggest painstaking task for us and it becomes Herculean when you have to sleep late at night after giving finishing touch to the next day’s presentations or after coming from a late night party

First day when we went to attend Vipassana (The Research being done on us) at 6 AM we were totally clueless what it is. A lady was sitting on stage and there were mattress spreaded all around the place. Aha! Mattress… That was the first thing which splashed in our mind; let’s go and sleep, but the lady was ogling us and she could see our tired eyes and unwillingness to do something which was forced on us.

The lady first starts with a very warm welcome and empathy towards us and says “Vipassana It is a technique that will eradicate suffering. It is a meditation; art of living that one can use to make positive contributions to society and to oneself too, to their mind and soul. It is a method of mental purification which allows one to face life's tensions and problems with calm mind and in a balanced way. Vipassana meditation aims at the highest spiritual goals of total liberation and full enlightenment; its all about to strengthen your soul and provide a way to achieve success while having calm in all aspects, its purpose is never simply to cure physical disease.” She spoke for few minutes in her magical voice. It was looking that someone is speaking from the background. It was really an inspiring speech but I could not make a lot from it.
After that motivated speech we started with some breathing exercises (I can still don’t remember all the names) and suddenly we all started feeling refresh. Believe me friends it was just like some one has hit the F5 button of my body ; she also asked to perform some ‘Surya Namskar’ with enchanting of Omm and it was a revitalizing. The moment I started enchanting I realized that it helps in clearing throat but it was my illusion as she was telling that it helps in sucking up the positive energy from outside and to keep the whole body and mind healthy. Every one was mesmerized and enchanted with the effect and 20 minutes had already passed and it was the time for a break but not a tea break it was time for Shavaasan. In Shavaasan you just need to relax your body and mind. I was not sure about my mind but I suddenly went in to deep sleep so deep that my friend had to wake me up. After 5 minute she asked us to wakeup and leave the room with maintaining silence. By the way I had nothing to speak at that time I was feeling the positive energy in my body and mind from inside and I was not in the mood wasting it talking with someone. From the next day I regularly used to attend the session not because from the fear of marks but because of the reward that it was offering to me. A perfect catharsis for body mind and soul. I will suggest all the readers to at least give it a try you may not be able to start doing it by yourself but there are number of Yoga Shivirs, Yoga experts and Practitioners who teach it. Its simple and it works. Although some people say that it is not the real Vipassana because actual Vipassana (That Monk used to practice) is very hard to practice. I will suggest that there is nothing wrong with this hybrid version and every one can go for it. I do it regularly and I feel very good
